Artist Statement

This collection of work explores the depiction of human form through planar analysis and created colors. Venturing into the hidden colors we may not usually see and integrating them through a series of marks. These marks can be found both in paint and charcoal. Working together, to create weight and movement in the form, these intricacies can be explained through bold marks with oil or delicate continuous marks in charcoal. Fluidity throughout these creations is important to implement to create an ever-expanding effect in which guides the viewers' eyes through a path of marks. These marks create tactility throughout the work, invoking motion in a physicality that is not normally seen with the human eye or in pictures. Exploring the concept of presence, I use reference photos that I have taken myself in a moment where I felt present. The process of creating is my main focus. I believe a concept will emerge after diving into exploration. In the past year I have learned that I would like to become more present in my work and life, art creates a channel to do so. Allowing one to stay grounded to the world around and become present as if I am hyper focused.
